Free Website Assessment
Is your website serving you as well as it should be? Take this quick quiz to find out!
Select the answer that best describes your website.
1. Contact Information
a) It is visible on every page in multiple locations – header, footer, navigation tab, as a call to action at the end of relevant posts, on your menu page … heck you would have to work hard NOT to find the contact information.
b) It can be found in the footer OR it has its own navigation “contact us” tab.
c) We don’t take reservations so we don’t want to encourage people calling and bothering us.
2. How was your website built?
a) We had a professional web designer develop the site to be easily readable by search engines. Our content is easily managed in-house and updated regularly.
b) We are using a template and/or used a website builder to put up a basic site with contact information and our menu. We never really update the site, it’s kind of a pain. It doesn’t do much for us anyway.
c) A friend of a friend built the site, we haven’t looked at it since 2003.
3. Hours and directions
a) Hours of operation and driving instructions to get to the restaurant are clearly visible on the home page or as its own navigation tab, and repeated in other relevant areas of the site.
b) We have hours listed on our “about us” page.
c) Listing the hours and directions? Now that’s a thought …
4. Customer Connection – Facebook, Twitter, Email
a) We have Facebook, Yelp, Twitter and Urban Spoon widgets or icons on our site visible from every page as well as a “sign up for our newsletter” form and “subscribe via RSS” for our blog.
b) We have links to Facebook & Twitter on our contact us page.
c) We are not currently active on social media sites and don’t have an email newsletter.
5. Menu
a) We have our full menu available on our site as both a navigation tab with live, searchable text with additional navigation aids such as keyword tagging and search, we also provide a print-friendly version.
b) We have our menu available to download in .pdf or .jpeg format.
c) We do not have our menu on our site.
Each “a” answer gets 5 points
Each “b” answer gets 3 points
Each “c” answer gets 1 point

If your score is 10-20 You understand the need for a website and are beginning to feel your way around the social web, but you need a bit of tweaking before you can truly “Serve Social.” The good news, most restaurants are in the same position and making even small changes now will reap benefits for some time to come.
